I learned a lot about the Sac and Fox tribes. They are interesting because the French attacked the Fox tribe and most of the Fox people went to the Sac tribe for protection. The Fox tribe used to be called Meskwaki and the Sac tribe used to be called the Sauk. They easily combined because they knew the same language and understood each other.

Bodaway's Story

Hello. My name is Bodaway. I am from the Sac and Fox tribe. Yesterday, I ate deer with a little bit of water. Deer is one of my favorite foods. Is it yours? I know how to hunt and do archery, which comes in handy when there isn’t much food.

I just ate breakfast. I had fruit and baked cornbread. I was even lucky enough to get buffalo. I think my family is lucky enough to get buffalo sometimes, but not all the time. My family consists of my little brother, Manipi, big brother, Lenno, and my mom, Etenia. I live in a wigwam and I travel in a birch bark canoe.

Finally, I wanted to tell you that Sac and Fox hunters and warriors used bows, arrows, and spears in battle. Sometimes, men would fight each other with special wooden war clubs. Did you know that the Fox tribe and the Sac tribe didn’t become separate tribes until the French attacked the Fox tribe. I need to go to bed now. Goodbye.
